The Design Brief

The developer of this project has always taken the view that he is not prepared to build anything that he is not prepared to live in himself.
And so, as a result, the eight dwellings at Amber Oak Terraces give you space.  Lots of it.
With their open-plan ground floor living areas, their substantial-size bedrooms and the very comfortable courtyards, you will be impressed. So will your friends.
Of course, you can enjoy this amount of space in other homes in some other suburbs.  Just across the road for example in Surrey Hills, or Mont Albert, or in nearby Balwyn.
But if you can find one, expect to pay sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars more in these suburbs for an equivalent size and quality home.

In summary, the design brief of Amber Oak Terraces has been:

  • To retain the two significant trees on site
  • To retain and redevelop the significant, 1890s Italianate homestead “Estherville” as the centre-piece of the project
  • To create a premium development that acknowledges the housing quality in adjoining suburbs of Mont Albert, Surrey Hills and Balwyn especially.
  • To create an efficient, spatial living environment that is comfortable without being extravagant or wasteful of space.
  • To ensure that each of the dwellings at Amber Oak Terraces attains optimum energy efficiency – though the use of high-efficiency Sunenergy glass and solar hot water systems in particular.
  • To create an exciting interior through the use of dynamic yet peaceful colours and through the intelligent use of materials, finishes and lighting.
